Media Awareness Workshop

An emergency or contingency must not only be well managed, but others must see it as being well managed. The perception of the media plays a strong part in what the public sees and thinks. Managed well it can be a bonus. Therefore all companies should have addressed the probabilities of an incident and built a Communication’s Plan.

The goals of a Contingency Communication’s Plan are to manage the incident by controlling or influencing all aspects of communications, limiting or avoiding damage to the Company/ship’s owner and restoring order as smoothly and quickly as possible.

AIMS

The Aim of the Workshop is to answer and provide definitions and examples of:

  • What is a contingency?

  • What is the media?

  • What if a company gets it wrong?

  • What can be done?

OBJECTIVES

On completion of the workshop participants will:

  • know  what measures should be in place before a contingency occurs by anticipating, planning and drills

  •  understand the actions to be taken during a contingency by implementing the Plan, listen and responding to communications

  • identify the processes after a contingency to recover the standing the company had, re-build relations and evaluate the potential damage

  •  have participated in producing press releases and other proactive activities of media planning

The Workshop will work with case studies, group discussion and role play.

Assuming the availability of a video machine, examples of good, bad and down right unbelievable interviews can be shown.
