International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (Ship)

All ships over 500GT require to operate with a Ship Security Certificate (SSC) based on the Ship Security Plan (SSP) that comply with the requirements of the ISPS Code (2004).

The basic requirements for accreditation with the ISPS Code are that the ship completes a Ship Security Assessment (SSA) and from this identifies what is required to comply with the Code. Implementing changes where necessary a Ship Security Plan (SSP) is compiled with processes, procedures and, if required, assets  to ensure the security of the ship at the different Security Levels identified in the ISPS Code.

KNIGHTSMART (UK) LIMITED has experience in undertaking Ship Security Assessments and  compiling the Ship Security Plan. The process can be completed with the minimum of inconvenience to the operation of the ship and can be carried out within a month, including the required ship visit for the SSA. This visit also provides an opportunity to provide ISPS training and drills for all crew.

KNIGHTSMART will ensure implementation in this timescale by providing a comprehensive service that covers:

  • Security management strategy – outlining the way the company will approach ISPS

  • Ship Security Assessment - that covers the relevant sections of the ISPS Code.

  • Ship Security Plan integration – identifying how the SSA and existing company manuals can be included in the SSP

  • Manual production – identifying the critical areas that must be covered by process or procedure and the areas that provide value to the shipboard and office personnel

  • System Management and Document control – establishing a process that allows all required manuals, ship’s information, forms etc to be kept up-to-date and relevant

  • Submission of the SSA/SSP to the Flag Authority for verification and any amendments that a particular Flag requires.

In addition to supplying these services, KNIGHTSMART (UK) LIMITED  will also provide extended backup of advice, training and encouragement to ensure that during the implementation period the security requirements and work is carried out effectively and efficiently. Where required, this advice and assistance can be supplemented by visits to the operator's office and ship, telephone hotline and e-mail.
